UNESCO Expands World Heritage List With Historic and Ecological Icons

The global tapestry of shared human history and ecological wonder has received new recognition. During a session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea, several of the world’s most culturally significant and ecologically vital landscapes were officially inscribed onto the World Heritage List. This prestigious designation acknowledges their outstanding universal value and commits the international community to their long-term preservation. Among the newly minted sites are the historic Normandy D-Day landing beaches in Europe, the mythological heights of Mount Olympus in Greece , the ancient capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara in Japan, and the sweeping, wildlife-rich Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape in South Sudan .
